Former Polish justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro has reportedly fled from Hungary to the United States, while his former deputy Marcin Romanowski is said to have left his apartment in Budapest shortly before the political change in Hungary. According to multiple reports, both men had previously received political asylum from the government of Viktor Orbán.

The situation escalated after Hungary’s new prime minister Péter Magyar signaled that Hungary would no longer protect foreign politicians wanted by other countries. Soon afterward, Ziobro confirmed he had arrived in the U.S., reportedly using documents connected to his Hungarian asylum status despite Poland revoking his passport earlier.

At the same time, media reports claim Romanowski quietly vacated his Budapest residence at the end of April, fueling speculation that he may also have departed Hungary. Polish authorities are now demanding explanations from both Hungary and the United States regarding how the two men were able to travel internationally while facing serious criminal investigations in Poland.

Polish prosecutors accuse Ziobro of abuse of power, misuse of public funds, and involvement in an organized criminal structure tied to the controversial Justice Fund and Pegasus spyware scandal. He denies all allegations and says the case is politically motivated.
